(EN) It was another long trip from the Thai Islands to Penang, in the north of Malaysia. Boat first, then a 6 hour bus to Hat Yai - where I spent the night - and a 5 hour mini van through the border. By that time I thought I needed some rest, after the crazy nightlife on the islands but I ended up staying in another party hostel :D haha Can't get enough of meeting people! In George Town that I met a lot of amazing people, from Germany and Finland to Poland and England. ♥
(PT) Foi mais uma viagem longa desde as ilhas Tailandesas a Penang, no norte da Malásia. Primeiro de barco, depois 6 horas de autocarro até Hat Yai - onde passei a noite - e mais 5 horas de mini van pela fronteira dentro. Por esta altura pensei que precisava de descansar um pouco, depois da noite louca das ilhas, mas acabei por marcar outro hostel de festa :D haha A realidade é que não me canso de conhecer pessoas! Em George Town que conheci imensas pessoas lindas, da Alemanha à Finlândia, da Polónia à Inglaterra. ♥
GEORGE TOWN
(EN) As you can see through the pictures, George Town is a street art paradise! I loved getting lost in this city! Either you're already looking for "that" work of art or you are surprised by a new one on a hidden corner! I arrived at lunch time and my first task was to exchange some cash. I dropped my bags at the hostel and I started walking around. Penang was on fire! It was even hotter than on the Thai islands! :| 35ºc, no wind whatsoever! I finally found an exchange currency shop and I was laughing while observing the worker on the other side of the window when a guy started laughing next to me as well "He's sleeping!". That was Franz, from Germany. Franz ended up joining me through the first day exploring the city and we had a lot of fun taking pictures with all the gorgeous street art pieces! Later we went for a typical street food dinner and to the cheapest place in town to drink a beer. There we met a beautiful Malay man on his 70's who was literally a history book. - Ask me whatever you want to know about Malaysia, I can tell you. - Everything! From the beginning... How did it all start? - The Portuguese were the first to arrive... We spent some great time listening to these wise man's words and then met more beautiful people from Australia, Netherlands and England. I had left the hostel just to exchange some money and ended up going back at 4am! :P
(PT) Como podes ver pelas fotografias, George Town é o paraíso da arte de rua! Adorei perder-me nesta cidade! Ou já estás à procura "daquela" obra de arte ou és surpreendido por outra meia escondida numa esquina! Cheguei por volta da hora de almoço e o meu primeiro objetivo era trocar dinheiro. Deixei a minha mala no hostel e comecei a caminhar. Penang estava a pegar fogo! Estava mais quente do que nas ilhas Tailandesas :| 35ºc e nem uma brisa! Quando finalmente encontrei uma loja para trocar o dinheiro que tinha, desatei a rir ao ver o senhor que lá trabalhava, do outro lado do vidro. De repente um rapaz parou ao meu lado e começou a rir também "Ele está a dormir não está?!". Chamava-se Franz e era da Alemanha. O Franz acabou por se juntar a mim e divertimo-nos imenso a tirar fotografias às maravilhosas peças de arte de rua! Mais tarde comemos algo pela rua e fomos ao barzinho mais barato beber uma cerveja. Foi lá que conhecemos um senhor Malaio muito lindo, com os seus 70 anos, que era literalmente um livro de história ambulante. - Pergunta-me o que quiseres saber sobre a Malásia que eu posso responder-te. - Tudo! Desde o início... Como tudo começou? - Os Portugueses foram os primeiros a chegar aqui... Passámos um bom tempo a ouvir as histórias deste homem sábio e conhecemos ainda mais pessoas lindas da Austrália, Holanda e Inglaterra. Tinha saído do hostel só para trocar dinheiro e acabei por regressar às 4h da manhã! :P
BATU CAVES - KUALA LUMPUR
(EN) On my last day in George Town we gathered 8 people from the hostel to go to the national park for a hike. Franz also joined. It was a pretty nice day! We've seen lots of monkeys and ended up going to a place called the Monkey Beach where they basically ruled the area! My stay in Malaysia was very short but very intense and I met people I know I'll meet again around Europe! ;D I left Penang early morning and I chose a flight with a long stopover in Kuala Lumpur. I didn't feel like staying longer in a capital city but I really wanted to cross the Batu Caves out of my bucket list! So there I was! Got two trains from the airport there and couldn't be more mesmerized when I saw it. I thought it would be overcrowded because I was getting there at lunch time already but it wasn't so much! Monkeys are also all around this place and I found out they're some of my favourite photographic models! Mainly with all of these rainbows as background! ♥ I still managed to meet Ken again, a couchsurfer I've been with in Macao more than two months ago! Again it was a short time in KL but an amazing one!
(PT) No meu último dia em George Town reunimos 8 pessoas do hostel e fomos até ao parque nacional para uma caminhada. O Franz juntou-se a nós. Foi um dia ótimo! Vimos imensos macaquinhos e acabámos num lugar chamado Praia dos Macacos, onde eles reinavam a área! A minha estadia na Malásia foi curta mas intensa e conheci pessoas que sei que vou reencontrar pela Europa! ;D Deixei Penang bem cedinho e escolhi um voo com uma escala longa em Kuala Lumpur. Não me apetecia passar muito tempo numa capital, mas queria riscar as Batu Caves da minha bucket list! E lá fui eu. Apanhei dois comboios do aeroporto até lá e não podia ficar mais hipnotizada quando cheguei. Pensei que a multidão fosse maior pois já era perto da hora de almoço mas, para minha surpresa, não estava assim tanta gente! Os macacos também estão por toda a parte e descobri que são dos meus modelos fotográficos favoritos! Principalmente com estes arcos íris de fundo! ♥ Ainda consegui reencontrar o Ken, um couchsurfer que conheci em Macau há mais de dois meses atrás! Mais uma vez, a minha estadia em KL foi bem curta mas maravilhosa!
(EN) I was then ready to take off to Bali, one of the places I've dreamt the most about traveling to. I was exhausted but as excited as I could be!
