(EN) The countryside of China is simply gorgeous. The train ride from Beijing to Hunan got some of the best views so far. You can see tea fields, mountains, lakes, farms and at some point you start going side by side with the astonishing Li river.
I must say I missed my Russian comrades a lot - in Chinese trains there's not a single moment of silence. It doesn't matter if it is 3pm or 2am, the noise is the same. Instead of a dining-wagon you have train attendants constantly passing through screaming either food names, gadgets or any kind of unthinkable things! :D
(PT) O interior da China é simplesmente maravilhoso. A viagem de comboio de Pequim a Hunan foi até agora aquela onde tive as melhores paisagens. Podes ver os campos de chá, montanhas, lagos, quintas e a certa altura começas a acompanhar o fantástico rio Li. Tenho no entanto de dizer que tive muitas saudades dos meus camaradas Russos - nos comboios Chineses não há um único minuto de silêncio. Não interessa se são 15h ou 2h da manhã, o barulho é o mesmo. Em vez de uma carruagem-restaurante tens os senhores do comboio a passar constantemente por ti enquanto gritam nomes de comida ou de qualquer acessório que nunca imaginas encontrar por ali! :D
(EN) Hunan is all about nature and that's why I chose to go there. There are two main places I wanted to visit - Zhangjiajie National Forest and Tianmen Mountain. 90% of this post's pictures are from those two places.
The first one was wonderful - although it was a bit foggy, those huge so-called "avatar rock pillars" are simply mesmerizing! I've spent my Christmas day there and I was all by myself the whole time (every once in a while I could hear some voices so I would either slow down and let them pass or take the other direction!)
This way I could hear nothing but the rain falling from trees, birds and Frank Sinatra.
(PT) Tudo à volta de Hunan é natureza e foi por isso que decidi lá ir. Haviam dois lugares que eu queria mesmo visitar - o Parque Florestal de Zhangjiajie e a Montanha Tianmen. 90% das fotografias desta publicação são destes dois lugares.
A minha experiência no primeiro foi maravilhosa - apesar de estar um pouco nebulado, aqueles "pilares do avatar", como lhe chamam, deixam-te de boca aberta! Passei o meu dia de Natal lá e tive sozinha o dia todo (de tempos a tempos ouvia umas vozes então ou abrandava o passo para os deixar ir à frente, ou seguia a direção oposta!)
Assim não ouvia mais nada senão a chuva a cair das árvores, os pássaros e o Frank Sinatra.
(EN) Tianmen Mountain was a bit disappointing. I was super excited to go there - the main two attractions are the Zhangjiajie Cave and the Glass Walkway. Well... They were both closed :D One because of maintenance and the other due to the weather. So basically instead of 32,5€ you pay 30€ (nice deal, China!) and you literally ski over there because everything is frozen and there are no views thanks to the super dense fog \o/
I don't regret going because you can still have some pretty nice vertigo over the cliffs plus this constant adrenaline due to the fear of falling on your ass and breaking your coxis like your cousin once did. ;D
Plus, I met a really nice Danish couple halfway, Morten and Naja, and I was glad to see it was freezing even for them! You can't stop walking - if you stop, your limbs just start getting numb and you soon can't feel them anymore - so we kept going on and drinking beer to see if we could make it to the end. And so we did! :)
(PT) A Montanha de Tianmen foi um bocadinho dececionante. Estava super entusiasmada para ir lá - as duas atrações principais são a caverna de Zhangjiajie e o paredão de vidro. Bom... Estavam os dois fechados :D Um porque estava em manutenção, o outro por causa do tempo. Basicamente em vez de pagares 32,5€, pagas 30€ (grande negócio, ó China!) e estás sempre a fazer "ski" porque está tudo congelado, para além de não teres paisagens nenhumas graças ao nevoeiro intenso \o/
Não me arrependo de ter ido porque mesmo assim consegues ter aquelas vertigens à volta dos penhascos e tens sempre aquela adrenalina constante com medo de escorregares, caíres de rabo no chão e partires o coxis como a tua prima ;D
Conheci um casal Dinamarquês muito querido, o Morten e a Naja, e fiquei feliz por saber que até para eles estava um frio desgraçado! Não podes parar de andar - se paras, começas a deixar de sentir os teus membros - então continuámos enquanto bebíamos uma cervejinha, a ver se conseguíamos sobreviver e chegar ao fim. Eventualmente conseguimos! :)
(EN) On my last day, Valentin and Maxime showed up again! It was a nice surprise.
The only information I had was that they were arriving "by the end of the morning" so I decided to be at the train station at 11am and wait for magic to happen! After 15 minutes the first train arrived and there they were, coming out with a smile on their faces! ;D
It was Maxime's birthday so we've spent it just chilling around. We had coffee and a nice lunch (first time I saw "dog meat" on the menu - sometimes I wish Google Translate didn't work!)
We've sung "happy birthday" in Chinese and French, that was funny! Later on they took me to the train station and there was again a "see you in Vietnam" but I won't be surprised if they pop in front of me sooner! haha
Next time I come to China I'll definitely explore its countryside deeper. Since I arrived I have this constant feeling that everything is difficult around here - and if in the city 10% speak English, in the countryside there's maybe 1% and I haven't met them :D - but the energy is way better and people smile more often!
(PT) No meu último dia o Valentin e o Maxime apareceram outra vez! Foi uma surpresa muito boa. :) A única informação que tinha era que chegavam "ao fim da manhã" então decidi estar às 11h na estação de comboios e esperar que a magia acontecesse. Não é que passados 15 minutos, quando o primeiro comboio chegou, lá estavam eles a sair de sorriso rasgado?!
Era o aniversário do Maxime, então passámo-lo tranquilo. Bebemos um café e comemos um almoço bem bom (foi a primeira vez que vi "carne de cão" no menu - às vezes preferia que o Google Tradutor não funcionasse!)
Cantámos os parabéns em Chinês e em Francês, o que foi muito engraçado! Ao fim do dia deixaram-me na estação com um "até ao Vietname!", mas não fico surpreendida se me aparecerem de novo à frente mais cedo! haha
Quando voltar à China tenho de explorar mais o interior. Desde que cheguei tenho a sensação de que tudo é complicado por aqui - e se nas cidades 10% fala inglês, no interior talvez seja 1% e eu não os conheci :D - mas a energia é muito melhor e as pessoas sorriem com mais facilidade!
